RackGuard Racking Protection

RackGuard Leg ProtectA

In a run or bay of racking, the non-corner uprights along the length of the racking can be subject to accidental impact. Generally these impacts occur at lower levels from vehicles but can also occur at higher levels on the rack legs from misalignment or bad positioning of goods or pallets being loaded on to the racking shelves. To maintain the racking systems integrity and safety it is necessary that damaged racking legs are replaced. This takes time and effort in replacing damaged parts, all of which costs money (and can often be very expensive).

The RackGuard Leg Protecta is a unique patented polymer based product, just like all A-Safe barriers. Its curved shape helps deflect impact, but the flexible material means that it absorbs impact too - therefore damage to racking and its content is minimised considerably. With RackGuard, you get racking protection that can't be found elsewhere.

The standard Leg Protecta is available in heights of 400mm, 600mm and 1000mm, and in widths of 75mm to 100mm and 100mm to 125mm. The standard fittings are stackable to offer protection to variable heights.
However, what separates A-Safe from the rest is that we produce our barriers ourselves and we're not the inconvenient middle man.  We ensure that we manufacture the best. and the advantage of coming to us is that if you need something more customised that no-one else does, we can do it for you.  Get in touch with us to discuss making the Leg Protacta with a specification to suit you.

As part of the technical know-how of A-Safe, our in house testing system means that we can guarantee the strength and quality of our products. We conduct a drop test on the RackGuard with a specifically designed test rig, which simulates an impact of a Fork Lift Truck load of 10kn. This meets the minimum requirements for the code of practice set down for racking devices in FEM (Federation Europeenne de la Manutention) 10.2.02, The Design of Static Steel Pallet Racking.

We also perform a "live" test where, under supervised conditions, a fork lift truck will impact upon the RackGuard to ensure it does what it says 'on the tin'.

Applications and Benefits

The rack leg protectors are used in warehouse and distribution environments where racking systems are used for storage to provide the required impact protection for rack legs or uprights. The protectors are used on both racking legs along a racking bay or aisle length and racking corner legs.

Use of the rack leg protectors has been shown to reduce racking damage by as much as 80% and at a conservative estimate the cost of the protector represents only 15 - 20% of the cost of replacing a damaged rack leg. They are easily fitted and clip in to place without fixings being required. The standard colour is A-Safe yellow, immediately reducing the likelihood of impact occurrence by simple visual detection.

  • Technical Did You Know

    • A-Safe Rack Leg or Upright Protectors meet the testing requirements and standards set down for racking protection devices in FEM (Federation Europeenne de la Manutention) 10.2.02, The Design of Static Steel Pallet Racking. Racking Design Code. This requires that “Protection devices shall resist, without exceeding the permissible stresses and without permanent deformation, a static force of 10kN (a minor impact), acting at a height of 250mm above the floor”
  • Health & Safety Did You Know

    • “Generally, damage (to racking legs or uprights) is at the lower levels of the racking – use renewable leg or upright guards to minimise the risk of damage from accidental impact." (HSE HSG76 Warehousing and storage: A guide to health and safety)
    •     “Compliance with Industry Guidelines requires that rack legs or uprights with a 3mm dent measured over 1000mm are replaced according to BS 5950 Structural Use of Steel work in Buildings.”
